Today’s Trends - Today might have been a turning point. What I mean is that it might be a line in the sand day where Machinery takes over from Hay and Feed Grain. We find that when this happens, it means there is a little more confidence in the job.

What things sold - Single Super, Mower Conditioners, Mobile Air Compressors, Spreaders, Hammer Mills, Chaser Bins Pick-Up Fronts, Tractors, Super Conditioner, Rice Straw, MAP, Oaten Hay, Hay Rake, Round Balers, Lucerne Hay, Sheep Handlers, Working Dogs, Wheaten Straw, Oaten Hay, ATV, Parts, Vetch Seed and Power Harrows.

What was in this mornings edition of The Farmers Club.
  • Are you defining the future for yourself or going through the motions? We talked about the average line a lot and keeping our heads above it. But going through the motions won’t cut it. We have clever people who can help you stay above the average line.

  • What are some of the simple things you enjoy? Yesterday morning, we woke up to rain on the roof after having our roof replaced from tiles to tin. How nice. It’s the simple things…

  • Are you an outsourcer or an inhouser? Gee, you need to get the calculator out to work out if it’s better to get a contractor in or buy that new Header. There are many factors that determine which way to go. We wrote about it this morning.

  • Do you own up to your mistakes and then right them? I did a 2-day workshop with Dave and Bianca, the founders of “Our Cow”, the online meat retailers who are kicking big goals. They had a near-death business experience in 2023 where they made the wrong call. They soon realised their mistake and righted it. It’s a fascinating story, and we wrote about it this morning.

  • You think Farming is complex… and it is. The “Our Cow” Paddock to door step supply chain model is a mighty complex one, with many moving parts, and there is always the prospect of something quite minor having a major effect on distribution. Meat to the door is not easy.

  • They sold their first full-body steer on Facebook, and their “Our Cow” business now turns over $40 million.

  • Try before you buy - Sticky subscribers are the most important thing in a subscription business. In the last 2 months, we have had about 5 or 6 drop-offs, which means we have got a little something that people want. Subscribe today. The first 30 days are free, and you can drop off before your first $44 invoice lands.

  • Have a great Wednesday night.
