Old Woolsheds are History -  We have a romance with the great old Woolsheds of the past. I'd say they are on an equal footing with the great old Homestead that you see regularly around Rural Australia. Both are legacies of a prosperous past.

So when I say old Woolsheds are history, I mean just that: most won't be required anymore. Some have been abandoned, some have been superseded, some have been renovated, and only the occasional ones are still in use.

It's proof of how the Wool and Shearing industry has shrunk over the years, going from peak Sheep at around 180 million, of which probably 179 million needed Shearing, to where we are today, a much smaller industry. Standards for Shearers and Shed Hands have lifted, which is why some of these old classics are no longer in use.

Unfortunately, most of these sheds will go into disrepair unless a conscious effort is made by the owners to keep maintaining them. A rare few will be repurposed for events, weddings, etc, and most will, unfortunately, die a sad and slow death. It's a sign of the times, and the ones that do get maintained will be a great legacy of a prosperous era in Agriculture that we won't ever forget. And for the record, my favourite old Shed is North Tuppal, something famous happened there..... See some images at the bottom of the page. What's your favourite old Woolshed?
