Selling Hay? Give yourself the best chance - Grain Farmers call themselves Grain Farmers because they like Harvesting Grain. That's the preferred option anyway, which is why the frost and dry conditions in some areas have been unfortunate. But as we all know, not everything goes according to plan for Farmers, and the best thing any Farmer can do is have a fallback option or two.

That fallback option is Hay. Many years ago, we didn't think of cutting distressed Crop, but as time has gone on, it has become a great option when conditions change like they have this year.

Unlike Grain, which you can sell any day of the week, Hay is a different kettle of fish and is an industry that is subject to either feast or famine. So selling Hay is not easy, and it will frustrate many because they can't always turn Hay into cash like they can with Grain.

So how do we give ourselves the greatest chance of selling our Hay? Our advice is to first get your Hay listed, either with or without a test. Don't wait for the test, but when it comes, update the listing according to the test. With the cut-off spring for pastures and Grain prices rising a little, we think there will be reasonable demand for Hay. Many a time, it just comes down to being in the right spot at the right time. Oh, and if you want to sell, our advice is to meet the market. Give one of our sales guys a call about listing your Hay.
