Bite sized bits - I was listening to the "Boot Off Log On" podcast featuring legendary Agriculturalist, Professor Bill Malcolm. Take a listen here. Bill said this: "Decision making with the potential of a loss will be different to the decision making with the potential of a gain".

So, what I have taken away from this is what might play out in 2025, which we wrote about in The Farmers Club the other day. Because 2024 has been a tough season for many, those going into 2025 will be nervous about how they might go. So, decision-making will be different from those who have come off a very good 2024 and will be confident they will do it again.

We are going to angle our FarmTender2025 - The Business of Farming event in SA around the 2025 recovery process and how we can better build our confidence, what sort of attitude is needed, rebuilding the balance sheet/P&L, etc. That will be our theme, and the speaker will focus on that.

One little bit of advice I heard a while back for those who are nervous about going again in 2025 is to break the year down into, say, 6 parts (2 months) and only focus on the part you are in. That way, you won't become outcome-focused, which will do your head in. Some of you might have started the 2025 season planning already. But I think it's good advice: don't focus on the outcome, focus on bite-sized bits. That way, you give yourself the best chance of making decisions with the potential of a gain.
