AWE Richards the Butcher - There’s a Butcher shop out Bordertown (SA) way that has been going for 80 years. I was talking to a one-time Bordertown local the other day who was giving them a big wrap.
It got me thinking about what it takes for a business to last 80 years in one location. Here is what the former local said: Most of the meat that goes across the chopping block they process themselves (rare these days). They still wear the butcher aprons, and they still yell out hi (usually on a first-name basis) to the customers from the other side of the counter. They sponsor lots of local clubs and organisations. They will cut your bacon to whatever thickness you prefer, and they still make their own savs. Their meat must be A1, and you know what, it sounds like they have fun along the way. That's just a small sample size of how they operate.
I remember going to the local Newton Butchers in Stawell with the old man, and the owners would slice off a bit of Baloney and toss it to you on the way in. They did it with all the kids. It's something small, but when you're a kid, you think it's great, and it's something I have never forgotten. Also, a shout out to old schoolmate Larry (Gary) Cameron, who is still running his Butcher Shop successfully in Minyip, estimated population 200.
Conclusion: Old fashion service never ever died and the proof is in the rolled roast Lamb at AWE Richards. People just want to be serviced. Do you have a local business you want to give a shout-out to? Reply to [email protected]

Tips to avoid getting scammed - A Finance broker reached out to be with the blow tips on how to avoid getting scammed. I will just add that we have our NPS payment system in place, which can also help. Hi Dwain, I work as an equipment finance broker, and our industry, unfortunately, sees plenty of attempts at fraud. Here are a few tips for people buying or selling vehicles or equipment online:
Never give out personal ID to anyone other than a reputable bank or finance company.
Scammers will often act as a legitimate buyer and say their finance company requires the sellers ID. Once received they can use the ID fraudulently or sell on the black market.
Never release goods unless funds are in your account and/or your finance company confirmed it has been paid out.
Scammers generally act with urgency and will send fraudulent bank remittances so they can pick up the goods asap. They will become aggressive if you refuse.
Never pay an invoice without calling a supplier on publicly accessible number to confirm BSB & account number.
If you're paying a new supplier, google the company and call them from the number listed online and confirm the BSB & account number. Scammers can hack into supplier emails and change an invoice to an account with their details.
A big red flag is an email from supplier stating something along the lines of, "we have recently changed bank account details". Do not call the number on their email signature, google and call from a publicly accessible website.
Google the purchaser/vendor.
Simple but important. A Google of Epic Farming will show all 1-star reviews stating it's a scam. Google the individual. Does it seem odd that a person who lives in a city and runs a restaurant wants to buy/sell a $150k tractor?
Scammers are very good at what they do. They will attempt to build trust and rapport to lure you in, or sometimes you may simply be an unwilling participant in their scam while they defraud a bank using your equipment as the conduit. Reply to [email protected]
