The Realisation - Those dry start events that have been held throughout WA, SA, Vic, Tassie, etc, have been a huge hit, and we can learn a lesson here. They have all been overwhelmingly attended by Farmers who want to gain knowledge so they can navigate their way through this dry start to the year to come out the end with the best possible result.

Why did people attend? Because they were struggling a little and wanted to learn some new ideas to cope with something they might never have been through before. It was also an opportunity to get off the Farm and learn, which is a good thing, especially when you are doing monotonous things like feeding Sheep or Cattle every day or watching the Crops you dry Sowed trying to poke their head through.

Yes, people learnt plenty and got to take some ideas home to test. But what they got most out of it, I reckon, was the realisation that nearly everyone in the room was facing the same issues as you. The realisation that your problem is also being shared by your neighbour and their neighbour. The realisation that you are not a lousy Farmer but the so-called best Farmers were going through the same thing. The realisation that everyone else has been questioning themselves like you have been. The realisation that things can turn around quickly, and you have to best prepare yourself for that. The realisation that you can salvage something from the season and that many will come out of it with an average season or maybe better.

If you went to one of these events, what did you get out of it? Reply to [email protected]
