When was the last big dust storm? - I have been reading about how the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA) is reviewing the usage of Paraquat and Diquat.

This is a major concern for Farmers as it’s an effective chemical fighter against Glyphosate-resistant Ryegrass. Any banning or rate reduction would be a big blow to Australian Agriculture. The financial setbacks would be enormous, and Farming practices would go backwards.

I mean, when was the last time you saw a fully blown dust storm? For me, it would be a decade or longer. Isn’t that a pointer as to how we have built up so much goodwill as far as Farming practices go? The dust storm days would return.

Cropping Farmers have invested heavily in moisture-saving techniques and have become very good at the caper. It’s become a real skill that has lifted yield averages and kept soils covered. Surely, common sense will prevail. In the meantime, if you are a Farmer with an NGR, please take this Grain Producers South Australia survey, which will have to fight the proposed rule changes.
