You never know…. -  We are entering the last day of Beef Week today, and it's been full-on. I've been trying to think why this event is so very different to any event I have been to, and I think I've worked it out. You could call it a Field Day, because there are exhibitors and plenty of Cattle. It's nowhere near as big as, say, Henty or AgQuip as far as area goes, but it is very compact, which means people are close, and at times, it can be a traffic jam.

Having been to many Field Days as an exhibitor, the best ones are when people are close, and the lanes are narrow. You get more opportunities to talk to people then.

So what sets it aside from others is that it's 5 days, that works here, and only here. But it's also like a major conference, every day there are numerous things you can attend, some are free and many you have to pay for. Many people come and just hop around to all these mini-conferences. There are breakfast events, lunch events and night events. Catering is a big part of it all. Many are sitting down and having meals. Another stand-out feature is that it's very social; the bar closes at 11 pm, and most of the big tents put on the grog from about 4 pm onwards.

That's very different to most other events in this bracket. So, it's a combination of things that make it unique. And unique it is. Make sure you pencil it in one day; the next event is in 2027. What's your favourite thing about going to Field Days?   Reply to [email protected]
