The Grumpy Farmer - I read this article here about our latest Melbourne Cup-winning Trainer, Anthony Freedman. It's a very good read, as Anthony's nickname is "Grumpy", and it got me thinking about the Grumpy Farmer. Take a read here

Anyone who has been involved in Farming for a while would know a Grumpy Farmer, and I would describe them pretty much like this. They keep to themselves or their family unit, they are not very chatty (they might even just grunt), and they never give anything away. I'd say they are pretty clever people, introverted and don't suffer too many fools.

Before you continue, please take a look at my new side hustle newsletter. Sign up to The Farmers Club here.

They are hard to get to know because they have that hard exterior and don't let people in easily. They like to do things their way and are pretty confident in how they go about it. They do listen, even though you might think they aren't. They probably have kids or grandkids who see a different side to what we see.

Most will never understand why they operate the way they do. They are less trusting. But if you manage to crack the nut, they start to drop their guard, and you will see a whole new person. They might even stop grunting. However, this takes time. At the end of the day, like Anthony Freedman, they are great characters of our industry, and remember, it takes all types.
