Inhaling more than we exhale - This subject is a little bit outside my scope, so I am happy to stand corrected, and I’m sure some will have alternative views. So they say that Agriculture will play a big part in us reaching our net zero commitments by 2050. I’m going to take a simplistic view here.

So, as Farmers, we grow Pastures and Crops, we have trees in our Paddocks, so we would inhale a lot of Carbon Dioxide. Our exhaling would be from the exhaust pipe of the Tractor or the Header, and the big one would be the release of Methane from the Cows, Sheep and Livestock we have on the place.

On the balance equation, as I see it, we would be a much bigger inhaler than an exhaler, so why do we have to keep justifying ourselves as being some sort of problem when it’s the opposite?

Or is the story getting a bit twisted around because the Airlines, the Power Companies, the Fuel Companies, etc, are all massive exhalers and need Agriculture to offset their usage? Otherwise, they have no hope of doing so without buying from someone who is a net inhaler of Carbon. The message is don't sell any so-called Carbon Credits to anyone. Is that too simple, or am I missing something here? Reply to [email protected]
