Big news travels fast - Everyone, well almost everyone, is interested in who bought what Farm or block of Land. It is more than filler for the Rural Newspapers. It's now become their main clickbait.
Why are we so interested in who bought what? Because it takes some commitment and balls to line up and pay $5, $6 or $10,000 an acre to buy Land these days. Most people's finances are behind lock and key, and I guess it is a little bit of a scorecard moment if the old mate next door fronts to the Auction at the local hall and parted with, say, $6,000,000 to buy the block next door.
It's the news and big news, and boy, does it travel fast. You can imagine the text messages getting sent and the phone calls getting made when the buyer is revealed. I have been a part of it all, and I'm sure most of you have, too. And just to add there is nothing worse when they state it was sold to an undisclosed buyer. Then the rumours start.
I read the other day that 50 percent of the Farming Land in the US will change hands either through either a generational hand-me-down or selling within the next 10 years. That's a hell of a lot in such a short period of time. I'm guessing the percentage will be somewhat similar here. If you're a young guy, you might want to seriously look at becoming a Rural Property Agent. If the numbers are right, it will be enough to keep the Rural Papers in business.
