Red tape jobs - It's not very often I get to write a story about something that happened that very day. So today, I had to verify my identification for something. So off I went to the local Post office only to find out they couldn't do it, and I had to go to a bigger centre. No worries, Kyneton, it was 10 minutes away.

Then I went there with my bits of ID, my passport and my Driver'’s Licence, only to find out that they wouldn't accept my licence because it was now digital. I understand that they have to do it properly, but Australia Post can't accept digital licences because they haven’t upgraded their system yet.

They said to go down to Vic Roads and get a physical one, so I went there, and there were 15 people in line and one person serving. So I went home and will go back tomorrow with my birth certificate and medicare card and get it done that way.

All the time, I refrained from showing my frustrations as it wasn't the people behind the counter's fault. But everywhere I went, I could see frustrated people lined up at the post office and Vic Roads. We create red tape jobs in this country but then we don't have enough people to service all the moving parts. Having systems that frustrate people means the people just doing their job get yelled at, and after this happens day in and day out, they get sick of serving people and find another job. Nobody is happy, and you can cut the tension in these places with a knife. Australia Post and Vic Roads need to somehow develop non-frustrating systems. Have you had an instance where you have been frustrated with a system? Telstra anyone.... Reply to [email protected]
