Life-changing Perspective - I was in a text message conversation with a Farmer who said he nearly lost his life back in 2000. He has now had an extra 24 years, a couple of kids and is enjoying his Farming life.

He said he had set everything up, owns a decent block of Farming Land, a couple of houses, and it's all paid for with the combination of production from the Land and a Contracting business. He has bought some shares and has a flock of Sheep, along with super and life insurance. If he left this earth, his wife and kids would be financially secure.

He said it's no raging success story, but I'd disagree with that and say it is. Not everyone in the business of Farming makes sure others around them are secure if something happens. I guess that near-death experience gave him perspective as to how he wanted to live his Farming life and look after his family.

As Farmers, we seem to be under pressure to grow, buy more Land, get bigger, and borrow more. And that might go against how some want to run their Farming life, but they do it anyway because others do. I'm not recommending it, but it's something like a near-death experience that seems to change the way people want to live their Farming lives and what's really important to them. Get your Pink Seat - The Virtual Pink Seat campaign has been a winner for the McGrath Foundation. Before the Pink Seat concept came along, they struggled to raise money for the Foundation. And someone internally came up with the Pink Seat idea. What foresight. It’s so easy to buy some seats and you can see something for your purchase, that’s important.
