Not happy Jan…. - I wrote a small piece in The Farmers Club newsletter a few days ago on why MLA are shunning Australia Day and boy did we get some replies.
This was one of the best ones: "MLA fought for years to claim Australia Day as a day to be thankful for all our blessings by eating Lamb Chops. Now, when they have finally achieved their marketing mission, the executive of the Association decides to give it all away. Are they attempting to add a layer of guilt and self-loathing on to the Farmer and Grazier (edited)"?
I didn't get one person who endorsed what MLA has done. I mean, they owned it and decided in one foul scoop to give all that built-up goodwill away. We did a small story on the BOM, and they got way more support than MLA.
Many members said if they could avoid the levies, they would, and some were quite scathing. MLA is a grower-funded organisation, and I'd guess that 90 per cent of growers would be against this campaign. So, is the organisation completely out of touch with its member base? MLA has done a lot of discredit to their brand here, and it will take a lot to get that trust back. Many are questioning their direction on many issues as they seem to be heading down niche tracks instead of focusing on the core. What's your opinion? Reply to [email protected]
