Pink to Green - Livestock and Real Estate have been switching companies for years. Most of the time, it’s no big deal, and only occasionally does someone get their knickers in. a knot.
Kevin Thompson (see a picture of Kevin at the bottom of the page) is a well-known Agent in Victoria (based at Wycheproof) and finished up a year or so ago after a long stint with Elders. He wasn't really ready to retire and said he still had 3 more good years in him. So the Nutrien Branch from St Arnaud swooped. “I’ll give you 3 good years”, Kevin said.
Farmers side with Agents more so than the company. Mostly have, and mostly always will. So it must be a little unnerving for an Agency that loses/sacks an Agent who then goes to another company and takes company clients with him/her. I guess what goes around, comes around, and next time, the shoe can be on the other foot.
Like any industry, there are really good Agents and some that are not so good. When you lose a good one, it can hurt, and it’s probably going to affect the company's turnover. That’s why it’s fraught with the danger of paying big money for some of these Agencies. Why? Because the business is the people. Have you followed an Agent when they have gone to another company?
