Passionate plea - I attended my first protest/rally since Wimmera identity Danny Johnson coaxed 100,000 Farmers to Melbourne town back in 1991 (I think) to rally against the government of the time. This one wasn't quite as big, but it packed a punch.
I stand corrected, but it was in relation to how the government was treating Farmers and Rural people. Let me just say that, looking back, we are probably treated way worse today. I remember local Marnoo legend, the late John "Senator" Cameron, repeating when Paul Keating was prime minister that "the countries f*#cked." I can't imagine what he would be saying if he were alive today.
What did I take away from today's rally? What stood out was the passion; all the ones who spoke had a determined tone to their voice that they were by no means giving in to these renewable and mining projects. They had kids as young as seven speak passionately about their family's plight. It was moving stuff. The take-home message to the 2000-strong Bendigo crowd was to take the fighting spirit back to their local communities and make sure others join in to save their way of life.
We wrote about the new trend in Ag Advocacy are these localised groups that are well led, passionate and prepared to fight for their Farm, their families and the community. And anyone or anything that stands in their way will get the treatment. It was a real eye-opener. Another thing to note was how bad Victoria is going compared to other states. To say it's in a state of disrepair is an understatement. Where do you stand on the push for renewables? Have a great weekend. Reply to [email protected]
