Losing trust in an industry - I was talking to a couple of mixed Farmers the other day who do Cropping and Merino Sheep. Both these Farmers told me they had lost trust in the Wool industry.

Now, what I mean by trust is they understand and except where it's at right now, but they don't trust that it will return to where it needs to be to sustain itself at a profitable level. If you are in an industry where you are seemingly having more downs than ups, then you are going to lose some form of enthusiasm over time.

These two Farmers haven't lost faith in Sheep, but they are talking about dropping Sheep numbers and upping the Cropping while they look at what alternatives there are in the Sheep game, and which direction they want to head. As mixed Farmers, they can do that quite easily. The problem comes when it's your sole enterprise, and you have lost faith.

There are plenty still loyal to the Wool game, and it will continue along, albeit under the microscope of many. We have written recently over in our Farmers Club newsletter about how there is a great deal of excitement coming from the Wagyu and Cotton industries. They are young industries with young participants who are fully invested and genuinely excited about their futures. I don't get that feeling with the Wool industry.
