The old ticker - We put this one through The Farmers Club newsletter earlier this week, and we just thought it would be appropriate for a wider audience.
I few weeks back, I mentioned that we all need to get a yearly checkup more as a preventative thing and just to see where we are at. It’s one of those things that is easily avoided but something we need to put in the calendar religiously each year, without fail.
I have a very good case in point in our old mate and Stock Agent, Don Murphy. Don passed away late last year at the ripe old age of 86. I only knew Don, who was a great family friend, as a slightly overweight bloke who used to smoke and drink pretty hard. Yes, he abused his body more than most, but he had a wonderful outlook on life and hated missing anything. One thing he religiously did each year was have a thorough checkup; he never missed and used it as a scorecard. No outcome from each examination really made a difference in how he lived his life, but he knew where he was at. It doesn’t guarantee anything, but it’s important.
I, on Don’s advice, do the same thing. However, this year, I suggested to the doctor that I want to be put through the heart machine to check how much calcification I had. So I got the result back today, and my doctor outlined via Zoom that I had a score of 36, which is in the low risk (which is good, he said) for the next 5 to 10 years. There was one artery with a bit of calcification, so he is going to refer me to a cardiologist for further clarification. So on the back of that, I ask that you please, please, please book yourself in for a checkup ASAP. Do you get regular checkups, or have you been a bit slack? Reply to [email protected]
