That struck a cord…. - Through this newsletter and our sister publication, The Farmers Club, we get anywhere between 15 and 30 replies every day, and I get back to them all. I am going to hijack The Farmers Club newsletter from Thursday morning and copy and paste it into this publication for Thursday night's edition. You will get to see some of the replies there, and you will get an understanding of what I am on about with The Farmers Club newsletter and how it differs from this one.
Yesterday, through one of The Farmers Club articles, we talked about how Inputs consultant Rob Dawes (who spoke at FarmTender2024) recommended that we deal with more than 1 Ag Retailer but no more than 3. It's all to do with competitive tension but not tarting ourselves around too much if you know what I mean.
Here is what the replier said: "Hi Dwain, I would agree with your consultant in regard to the connection with Suppliers. If you want to have a good relationship with the businesses that keep you going on the Farm, always pay your bills and don't shop around all the time, you will get found out and treated accordingly. The same goes for Engineers, Mechanics, Auto Electricians and so on. A bit of preventative maintenance and a good working relationship with these people will reap no end of benefit when the shit hits the fan during Sowing/Harvest etc, or when needed".
How simple a summary is that of how we need to treat each other in Ag. That just struck a chord with me; I don't know why because it's not that revolutionary, and we do write about it a bit. But it's probably one of the best replies I have had from a common sense point of view. It's just so simply put. We just need to go out of our way a little to make sure we are easy to get along with. What's your theory on how we should be treating each other in Ag? Reply to [email protected]
