The former graveyard of dreams - Today was the last day of the Cotton Conference, which was very good, but I wouldn't mind a dollar for every time a speaker said the most overused word in the world, "sustainable". I digress.

Allan Myers, part owner of Tipperary Station in the NT, spoke and described the pursuit of Farming in the North as the graveyard of dreams. At least that's what it was like in the past, with so much money invested for very little return and many people heading off into the sunset with a tail between their legs.

But things are changing as trailblazers work through things with trial and error. With each mistake made, there's an outcome that leads to improvement. They are using case studies in similar climates in Brazil as a guide with some success.

The growth is happening, and with the opening up of more Land, that continued growth will keep advancing. Farming in the North will also lead to benefits for the Cattle industry with access to Feed to finish Cattle quicker with the aim of making a better margin. Some of the Cattle Stations now have their own Farming divisions and are doing some good things. So, according to Allan, they are working it out and getting better at it, but there are still lots of challenges. It's an exciting thing for Australian Agriculture. Reply to [email protected]
