Economic benefits first - Cassidy Johnston, a Rancher out of the US, said this: "A reminder that sustainability must include economics in order to be truly sustainable". In other words, your operation needs to make money or be profitable; otherwise, it can't be considered sustainable.

Farming, like any other business, needs to be profitable; it's tough enough in this high-cost environment to make Farming profitable. So, by putting restrictions on a Farmer, for whatever reason that is, it messes with their ability to make a profit.

And if a Farmer is not profitable, they won't ever consider putting money aside for projects that might benefit someone or something outside their own Farming business.
