Investing in yourself - I have spent the last 2 days at the Best Wool, Best Beef, Best Beef conference at Ballarat in Victoria. It's been well attended and totally aimed at Farmers. I love these types of Farmer-only events.
The "Best" group have done a good job adapting the agenda to where things are at currently. By that, I mean it is very dry in most of Victoria, and people wanted information on how to get through this period; they delivered.
It got me thinking about how all these people paid money to come along to get quality information they could take home and use. To me, they were investing in themselves, curious Farmers who are getting off the Farm for one or two days, getting the opportunity to talk to others in the same position and getting takeaways from the speakers who are leaders in their field. All of that for a couple of hundred bucks. That's value.
You might call me blindly ignorant, but I can't work out why more Farmers don't attend at least half a dozen of these types of events each year. Yes, Farmers have their busy times, but find things to go to in the less busy times. One of our most quoted Farmers, Nigel Kerin, said the other day on a podcast that you have to pay to get the very best information these days. I agree. Have you attended something lately that you got some great takeaways from? Reply to [email protected]
