Spun out - Last week, we wrote about how politicians and now corporates use spin to talk their way out or through situations. Like when they rolled out the Woolworths boss for a series of interviews, and he just talked meaningless dribble, trying to defend his company's Australia Day sentiments. You can read the article here.
We said in the article that that level of spin isn't present in Agriculture. Well, I was taken to task on that by a few Farmers who reached out. They said spin is alive and kicking in Ag.
One Farmer said all the ethically produced, sustainable produced, regenerative produced Beef is BS, and the rhetoric that surrounds all these claims is just spin. He went on to say, does that make his Beef unethically produced, unsustainable, non-regenerative? He also said that Coles Carbon Neutral Beef is a con and should be looked into by the ACCC.
Another responder said some of the Stud Breeders (Cattle & Sheep) are the best spinners going around. He also mentioned some of the Ag representative groups don't actually provide any value or do much; they just have good talkers relaying the message (spin). Even some sales Agronimists got a run. So there you go folks, I might have been spun out on that one, maybe not. But I'll still say that none of Ag stuff has ever reached the level that old mate from Woolworth dished up the other day. Do you think there is plenty of spin talk in Ag? Reply to [email protected]
The Farmers Club headlines - Tomorrow, we talk about how one Farmer I spoke to yesterday managed to buy Lambs at the right price and the right time and is now reaping the rewards. We also hear from a couple of Farmers who absolutely love the game. And I tell a story about how a negative turned out to be a blessing in disguise. Plus, all your replies, and we also have over 30+ short-form articles and images all about Farming. Sign up here.
